TSX Posts Small Weekly Gain
The Toronto Stock Exchange’s S&P/TSX Composite Index closed unofficially down 70.03 points on Friday to finish the week at 15,633.33. This represents a small, yet positive, gain over last week’s close of 15,506.31. More importantly, the TSX has jumped 13.45% since the Christmas Eve mini-trough.
Low wage growth and uneven oil prices are expected to stave off further central bank action.
South of the border, US markets ended flat on Friday, with skepticism over a US-China deal ahead of a looming deadline fueling investor concern. The Dow Jones Industrial Average and the NASDAQ managed to squeeze out small gains for the week, while the S&P 500 was perfectly flat for the week.
