Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke this morning and unveiled the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB).  The CERB will amalgamate the two previously announced benefits: Emergency Support and Emergency Care Benefit.  This program is meant to provide an EI-like income for those who don’t normally qualify for EI.  Those able to apply for the CERB are the following:

-Individuals sick or quarantined due to COVID-19
-Individuals who have to stay home to take care of a family member sick with COVID-19
-Previously employed parents who are now at home taking care of their children
-Part-time, contract or self-employed workers who have seen reduced income because of COVID-19
-Individuals are who are still employed, but not receiving payment from their employer

An application portal will be made available in early April and funding is expected to take 10 days.

We’ll follow-up with the portal link and instructions when those details are made available.
